The 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTD originally made its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and now the German automaker has released more details on its Gran Turismo Diesel hot hatch.
Set to go on sale in America next year as a 2015 model, the Golf GTD is powered by a new 2.0-liter TDI engine with 182 hp and up to 280 lb-ft of torque. All in all, it’s more powerful and more fuel-efficient than its predecessor – which never made it to our shores. Available as an option will be the automaker’s automatic dual-clutch gearbox (DSG).

According to Volkswagen, the new Golf GTD is the first GTD to have a stop/start system on board as standard, and in battery regeneration mode it utilizes its deceleration phases to charge the battery. The GTD accelerates to 62 mph in just 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 143 mph.
For the exterior, the GTD gets bi-xenon and LED rear lights as standard while the GT-specific roof edge spoiler sports lateral aerodynamic enhancements. It is also possible to order the GTD with a factory-installed, rear privacy glass with 90-percent tint instead of 65 percent. (Note: All specifications are for the Euro-spec model).
